Family Medical Associates of Raleigh supports the American Academy of Family Physicians’ Statement on Immunization Exemptions:
The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) supports immunization of infants, children, adolescents and adults as defined by recommendations set forth in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and approved by the AAFP. With the exception of policies which allow for refusal due to a documented allergy or medical contraindication, the AAFP does not support immunization exemption policies. (2015 September BOD) (2016 COD).
The AAFP also states “when the current childhood immunization schedule is followed, it is estimated 42,000 deaths and 20 million cases of disease are prevented annually. In addition, vaccine use has significant savings in both direct health care costs and total societal costs.”
Family Medical Associates of Raleigh recognizes that parents have the right to choose whether to immunize their children. However, in order to protect our patients and our staff, we cannot provide primary care services to children whose parents choose not to vaccinate them due to reasons other than allergy or medical contraindications.

Most insurances cover an annual physical or wellness visit with no cost to you, the patient, once a year. However, this is a limited visit and includes only preventative care and screenings as defined by your insurance company. It does NOT include discussion of medications, symptoms, or any other concerns raised by you or your provider. Your insurance treats these discussions as a separate office visit from your physical or wellness visit, and your copay or deductible will apply as it would for any other office visit.
